Germany's energy revolution is threatening to stumble on its most successful component: battery storage systems. This is because the regulatory framework for grid connection and network charges is currently being developed in parallel at several points. A draft bill on the so-called “network package”, which has recently become public, addresses, among other things, adjustments in feed-in and connection priority (for example FCA requirement, construction subsidy, reservation and approval of connection capacities).

As part of its expansion in the German electricity market, TotalEnergies has signed an agreement with Allianz Global Investors (AllianzGI) to sell a 50% stake in a portfolio of eleven battery storage projects with a total capacity of 789 MW — 1628 MWh. These 11 projects, which are located all over Germany, were developed by Kyon Energy, a subsidiary of TotalEnergies, and will be operational by 2028.

With the new large-scale battery storage system, the company is operating its first own plant and wants to position itself as an Independent Flexibility Provider (IFP). The start-up is also the start of setting up our own storage infrastructure. Kyon Energy has already completed more than 2.5 GW of projects, of which more than 1 GW are currently being implemented.
