The energy revolution has a new bottleneck: It is no longer the absolute quantity of generation that determines supply security, but its flexibility. Battery storage systems dampen price spikes, give excess electricity economic value and thus ensure a more stable and overall lower price level.

The storage ramp-up does not require any subsidies. However, it needs fair framework conditions so that storage facilities can compete with fossil flexibility resources.

After months of trembling, the Federal Court of Justice has now provided clarity: Operators of distribution networks may continue to collect construction subsidies (BKZ) according to the performance model for connecting a battery storage system.
