Kyon Energy and QUADRA energy are intensifying their cooperation: Kyon Energy's first standalone battery storage system will be optimised and marketed by QUADRA energy in the future. The project in Arnsberg strengthens TotalEnergies' integrated power strategy and makes an important contribution to the flexibility and stability of the German electricity system.
QUADRA energy, Germany's leading holistic energy manager for renewable electricity, and Kyon Energy, one of the leading developers, EPCM service providers and operators of large battery storage systems, are intensifying their cooperation. On the occasion of e‑world 2026, both companies are announcing a new milestone in their cooperation: QUADRA energy will optimize and market Kyon Energy's first standalone battery storage system. Both companies are part of the global energy group TotalEnergies and are consistently implementing its integrated power strategy with the project.
The aim of TotalEnergies is to create sustainable added value for the energy supply of the future. The Group combines renewable power generation from wind and solar with storage solutions to provide flexibility, supplemented by gas supply with LNG, flexible electricity production from CCGT power plants and holistic energy management from production to the customer.
The new large-scale battery storage plant in Arnsberg, North Rhine-Westphalia, marks an important strategic step for Kyon Energy: For the first time, the company operates its own plant and is thus positioning itself as an independent Flexibility Provider (IFP). The start-up is also the start of setting up our own storage infrastructure. Kyon Energy has already completed more than 2.5 GW of projects, of which more than 1 GW are currently being implemented.
QUADRA energy brings its extensive experience in marketing renewable energy and its expertise in operating and managing battery storage systems to the cooperation. “The project in Arnsberg is an important component of TotalEnergies' integrated power strategy in Germany,” says QUADRA ENERGY managing director Dr. Thomas Krings. “With our q.nect platform, we are using battery storage specifically in all relevant markets — from control energy to wholesale markets. In this way, we not only ensure economically optimal operation, but also make an active contribution to stabilizing the German electricity system. Battery storage systems are essential to provide flexibility, compensate for price peaks and to further advance the integration of renewable energies,” Dr. Krings explains the corporate strategy.
In addition to stand-alone storage systems, QUADRA energy is also pursuing system combinations, for example as part of innovation tenders. “We see this as an attractive growth area for the coming years,” adds Dr. Krings.
“The marketing of Kyon Energy's first standalone storage system is an outstanding milestone for us,” says Christian Karalis, Head of Sales & Origination at QUADRA energy, commenting on the cooperation. “The storage system is an example of how we can maximize value for operators through intelligent optimization and market-oriented control. Our many years of experience in managing renewable energy sources help us to achieve optimal revenues and at the same time stabilize the energy system. ”
Kyon Energy also underlines: “The commissioning of the battery storage system in Arnsberg is a clear signal of our future role in the power system,” explains Florian Antwerpen, managing director of Kyon Energy. “Together with QUADRA energy, we are taking the next step and taking responsibility for operating our own plants. In this way, we can make the energy transition even more active and provide the flexibility that our electricity system urgently needs. ”
Kyon Energy is a leading German project development company that focuses on large battery storage systems and, in addition to project planning, also acts as an EPCM (Engineering, Procurement, Construction, and Management) and operator of the plants. As an Independent Flexibility Provider (IFP), the company is making a significant contribution to stabilizing the German electricity system with more than 800 MW of projects during implementation. With 155 MW of battery storage systems successfully developed and sold with partners, over 2.5 GW of approved and ready for construction projects and a current project pipeline of over 7 GW, Kyon Energy is one of the market leaders in Germany. The company, which was acquired by TotalEnergies in January 2024, has a particular focus on the development and optimization of multi-use strategies, combined with deep expertise in project development and management as well as the regulation of large battery storage systems. Through its battery storage systems, Kyon Energy is a driver of the energy revolution and strives for a world powered by renewable, sustainable and independent energy.
