Questions and answers about the project phases

What are the three project phases at Kyon Energy?

Kyon Energy supports battery storage projects throughout their entire lifecycle. The first phase covers project development, from site selection and land acquisition to grid connection, permitting, and reaching "ready-to-build" status. In the second phase, the facilities are built, connected to the power grid, and commissioned. Subsequently, Kyon Energy takes over the long-term operation of the storage systems and makes their flexibility available to the energy markets.

How long does a battery storage project take from the initial site idea to operation?

The duration depends heavily on the location, the size of the facility, and the permitting process. Project development alone—including securing land, grid connection, and permits—often takes several years before actual construction begins.
‍
Developing a battery storage project is a multi-year process that starts long before construction begins. The first step involves identifying suitable sites and evaluating them in terms of grid connection, land availability, and technical and economic conditions.

This is followed by securing the land, technical planning, coordination with grid operators, and the necessary permitting procedures. This project development phase often takes several years and is usually the most time-consuming part of the project. The subsequent construction phase can often be completed within a few months, depending on the size of the project. After testing and commissioning, the facility is available to the power grid and energy markets. The exact project duration always depends on the specific site conditions and regulatory processes.

Does Kyon Energy handle all phases in-house, or do you work with partners?

We cover project development, implementation and operation ourselves, while also acting as the general contractor to coordinate all relevant partners, including grid operators, municipalities, construction companies, technology partners, authorities, and marketers. Depending on the project phase, we work specifically with specialized firms and experienced subcontractors, for example for civil engineering, electrical installations, or the assembly of battery systems. Kyon Energy assumes overall responsibility for planning, coordination, and quality assurance, ensuring that all project participants work together efficiently. Through this model, we combine our own expertise across the entire value chain with the know-how of specialized partners, allowing us to realize projects reliably, safely, and on schedule.

Who is a partnership with Kyon Energy suitable for?

We support projects from initial site assessment through development and construction to long-term operation. Throughout the project lifecycle, we work with a wide range of stakeholders. This includes, in particular, municipalities and landowners interested in grid-connected battery storage. Furthermore, projects are implemented in close cooperation with project investors.
